Over the weekend Sean Spicer, Donald Trump’s press secretary, gave a press conference in the press briefing room where he scolded the media for its coverage of President Trump’s inauguration day—namely reporting on how low the attendance was. Minutes later, the internet’s latest meme was unleashed in record time.

Not only did Sean Spicer deliver his statement and then walk off without taking any questions, but he also told the media what they should be covering, and made up lame excuses about why it may have looked empty (floor coverings used in the mall to cover grass gave it this illusion).

Instead of the 250,000 that officials figures had claimed, Sean Spicer said that there was many more people there (a figure of 1.5 million has been used). He used a variety of sources to claim this and then said this doozy, “This was the largest audience to ever witness an inauguration, period.”

And it was that line which caught the internet’s attention and which got turned into a meme. That line combined with the fact that Sean Spicer had lied so blatantly—people lie all the time in politics, but most of them just happen to be much better at it than Sean Spicer—and it was Trump’s first day in office, people couldn’t let it go.

Trump could’ve just left it, kept a dignified silence and moved on to running the country. But by calling it out and countering it with such made up nonsense that contradicts actual data, he’s instead been left open to ridicule.

Someone has already made a hilarious ‘Hitler Downfall Meme‘ of the event in the video above.

And ridicule is what Twitter does best. So, the Sean Spicer meme and #SpicerFacts, #SeanSpicerSays hashtags were born, where people made up outrageous and clearly untrue claims which they finished by saying: Period!

It was certainly a lot of fun. Let’s take a look at some of the funniest ones.
