The new season of The Walking Dead season 8 has kicked off and will follow the ‘All Out War’ plot from Robert Kirkman’s comics. Which means we may see Rick Grimes kill Negan. When show premiered on October 22 the focus showed Rick seeking to reclaim his friends’ freedom and take down the man that took it. Show runner Scott Gimple has already revealed that The Walking Dead season 8 will be influenced by the All Out War plot from the comics a few months back. The plot sees Negan and the Saviors do battle with Rick and his coalition.

The All Out War scenario comes after the finale of The Walking Dead season 7 where Rick Grimes said that Negan and the Saviors’ time was up. Which is no surprise really after the horrors they’ve committed to Rick, his group, the Hilltop and the Kingdom—vengeance is most definitely coming. And fans of the show can’t wait.

A new The Walking Dead season 8 promo (see above) confirms that there’s going to be plenty of deaths in this All Out War too. In the teaser Rick can be heard rallying the troops by saying, “Listen, all of you have a chance to survive. But those who use, and take, and kill, we end them…This is the only way!”

It also explicitly shows who exactly is going to get it by flashing up Jadis and the Scavengers, Simon and some Saviors, and then, finally, Negan—further implying that his time is up and Rick is going to be the one to kill him. We then get some shots of Jesus, Carl, and Tara pointing guns, lots of explosions and gun fire and Maggie saying, “The future is ours, the world is ours!”

It all ties in with what Gimple has said about there being some “big deaths” in season 8’s All Out War. “There are some big deaths this season, but I think they’ll possibly catch people by surprise.” Gimple told Entertainment Weekly.

In the same EW interview Austin Amelio (who plays Dwight) said, “It’s a f*cking in-your-face, action-packed IV of adrenaline. Season seven was the ramp-up and now this is the blastoff. The stuff that’s happening is insane.”

While Andrew Lincoln, who plays Rick, chimed in, “I think that last season was very painful for everybody. And now you get a certain sense of a reclaiming of the old show and the swagger.”

The official synopsis for the first episode of season 8 shows that the show is wasting no time in getting the war started. It reads: “Rick and his group, along with the Kingdom and Hilltop, have banded together to bring the fight to Negan and the Saviors.” The episode is titled ‘Mercy.’

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter about it, which will be the 100th episode of the show, Josh McDermitt who plays Eugene Porter said, “Episode 100 is huge in itself. It’s massive. We always say that for whatever premiere or finale, whether it’s midseason or otherwise, that it’s big. After a while — and I don’t know how the fans take it, or how you take it — but it just sounds like we’re saying the same thing over and over again. But as I read this script, I’m thinking, ‘God, I have to read that again to comprehend everything.'”

Gimple has also noted that by season’s end there will definitely by resolution and an outright winner with regards the All Out War. The Walking Dead returns to our screens on 22 October on AMC.
