Back in 1947 the film noir Lady in the Lake was released, the entire thing was shot from the point-of-view of its main character Philip Marlowe. It was experimental for its day (and pretty much panned at the time), and this was years before Gaspar Noé’s Enter the Void POV weirdness.

Now another experimental POV film is getting made—it’s called Hardcore and it’s billing itself as “The First Ever Action POV Feature Film.” The film’s directed by Ilya Naishuller and produced by Timur Bekmambetov who directed Nightwatch and Wanted.

Naishuller had previously made this POV music video which was the inspiration to make Hardcore, but he needs some money to help finish it.

The film’s shot on a GoPro camera using a custom rig that was strapped to the actor’s face, making him look like some kind of cyborg. Which is fitting, because the story is about a cyborg.

HARDCORE is a modern, action Sci-Fi story about HENRY, a newly resurrected cyborg who must save his wife/creator ESTELLE (Haley Bennet) from the clutches of a psychotic tyrant with telekinetic powers, AKAN (Danila Kozlovsky), and his army of mercenaries. Fighting alongside Henry is JIMMY (Sharlto Copley), who is Henry’s only hope to make it through the day.

You can get an idea of what the film will look like in the video above. And it looks like a lot of fun—pretty much coming off like a cinematic version of an FPS.

Hopefully they’ll get the money to finish it, if you feel like helping you can go donate on the project’s Indiegogo page.
