Filmmaker and cinema lover Jacob T. Swinney has been making some great supercuts showing the tropes and techniques in Quentin Tarantino’s movies (i’m guessing he’s a big fan). He’s covered Tarantino’s use of extreme closeups and his use of sound, and his latest one explores blood. And plenty of it.

“Out of all of the trademarks that define Tarantino’s style, the filmmaker may be most recognized for his gratuitous use of blood and violence,” Swinney explains in the video’s description. “The excessive bloodshed often seems to serve as a tribute of sorts to a style or genre of filmmaking (Japanese cinema, Westerns, etc.), but according to Mr. Tarantino himself, he indulges in the red liquid simply because ‘it’s so much fun.'”

Mixing scenes like the iconic and harrowing ear-slicing section from Reservoir Dogs with the epic slice-and-dicing Kill Bill films and action sequences from the Django Unchained, this grisly supercut shows Tarantino’s artful use of the red stuff, but it’s not for the faint of heart.

Just remember, it’s gratuitous, but great fun. Apparently.

You can check out Swinney’s previous instalement in his Tarantino series Tarantino: The Driving Shots below.
