Eclectic Method turn their attention to the short anarchic films of cartoon duo Tom and Jerry who are rightfully animation classics. Featuring characters created back in 1940 by William Hanna and Joseph Barber, they show Tom the cat and Jerry the mouse in eternal conflict (although they do very occasionally team up). Episode after episode they battle each other in often very violent but very slapstick ways. Tom often comes out the worse off, but Jerry doesn’t go unscathed either. They are an iconic pair who feature im most people’s childhood memories.

Animator and cartoonist extraordinaire Chuck Jones contributed over 30 episodes back in the 1960s. And the pair continue to this very day with The Tom and Jerry Show on Cartoon Network. Plus, of course, they were the inspiration behind the even more violent and gruesome Itchy and Scratchy. The bloodthirsty cat and mouse duo from The Itchy and Scratchy Show, an animated series within the animated series, The Simpsons.

One thing Tom and Jerry are not though, or at least haven’t been until now, are drum and bass musicians. But that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be. After all Tom and Jerry do play a lot of instruments in the numerous episodes that have aired over the years. From the double bass to piano to simply whistling.

Also their constant bashes, bumps, blows, scraps, scuffles, and slaps go very well with the sounds of bass and drums. And that’s exactly no doubt why remix maestro Eclectic Method (aka Jonny Wilson) decided to make a mashup of them making such music. It’s as if it Tom & Jerry were begging for this to happen.

Music which perfectly segues with the farce, chaos and comical happenings of Tom and Jerry and their madcap adventures, the fast breakbeats and sub-bass lines seeming like a natural fit. Where the sounds of the cartoon become a totally passable drum and bass tune and the visuals sync up with total perfection.

Making it something akin to music for your eyes.
