Believe it or not there are lots of abandoned cars in Dubai. Most of us will never own that many supercars, sports cars or luxury cars in our lifetime. Let alone abandon them. Well not so with the amount of abandoned cars in Dubai it seems. Can you imagine spending at least $250,000 or so for a sports car and then just leave it behind when you don’t want it anymore. Or how about a forgotten $1.6 million Bugatti Veyron. Yes, you read that right.

If someone ever told you that they had done just that you would never believe them, right? Think of it, having the money to afford a luxury sports car, a thing of beauty, something you would cherish with all your heart and then just dump it when you are done with it. No one does that. Ever. That’s just insanity.

I don’t want to depress you and burst your bubble, but it makes the following photos even more heartbreaking.

They’re luxury high-performance vehicles that have been left abandoned or forgotten at Dubai airport, left by rich people who think nothing of letting a sports car that costs more than some people’s home, to rot.

That, or they can no longer afford to pay off the car and leave it at the airport when they flee, leaving a wealth of abandoned cars in Dubai. As you can see they aren’t cheap sports cars, they’re pure luxury.

Why Are There So Many Abandoned Cars In Dubai?

Supercars, Sports Cars And Luxury Abandoned Cars In Dubai - 88.

it does seem that outstanding payments by owners is possibly the most probable explanation for just leaving a luxury supercar abandoned by the side of the road. The fact that they are mainly dumped near the airports shows that their owners are probably fleeing the country, escaping from bankruptcy brought on by the current financial crises in the middle-east, where Sharia law makes it a criminal offense for a non-payment of a debt.

According to British website Carkeys.co.uk “many of the cars belong to foreign expats, among them Brits, who traveled to cities like Dubai and Abu Dhabi in search of high-flying careers but who started to struggle when the UAE came upon hard times. Under Sharia law, which is observed in Dubai and across the vast majority of the Middle East, non-payment of debt is a criminal offence.”

Carkeys go on to say “Throughout the past five or six years, luxury cars including Ferraris, Koenigseggs and pricey BMWs have all been abandoned in Dubai as their owners flee bankruptcy brought on by financial crises. Anyone who fails to make their payments faces imprisonment in the notoriously tough prisons of the United Arab Emirates.” Not something that anyone would like to face if they had the choice. Supercar or not.

So that’s the most probable reason why there are so many abandoned cars in Dubai, just dumped and forgotten. It makes you wonder what happens to all those cars – How long are they there for – where do they end up?

Can I have one?

So what happens to these? Do they just stay there or do they go on auction or something after a while?.. so wasteful

    • lol

Once a car is suspected of being abandoned they issue a 15 day notice. After that it goes to a police scrapyard. The cost of leaving a car behind is well worth it for those fleeing. Unpaid debt is illegal in Dubai. There is no bankruptcy, only prison. Once people realize that they can’t pay their loans, they run.

Apart from the Maserati and the Ferraris most of these cars are not even close to being worth 250K. Take the last one, that’s just a BMW of the 3-series, the Chrysler Crossfire is just a worthless piece of car, even with all extras possible the Mercedes E-Series doesn’t even touch 100K and the BMW roadster is most likely seen in front of German universities.

    • lol

Four are worth over 250k and the Maserati isn’t one of them. A brand new Maserati GranTurismo sport costs about half that brand new. And saying that BMWs are cheaper in Germany is way off. They cost a lot more in Germany, mostly because of taxes… and I’m not talking about cars for shipment back to the US.

      • Oliver Jürgen

so, didn’t we just agree basically? We’re saying only a small portion ist really around and more than 250K, I never said BMWs are cheaper in Germany. I’m living there, I know they’re ripping us off.

these cars are ugly and not worth that much, I would rather have a Toyota or mazda but after sitting for so long id bet the cylinders and rings are fucked, I wouldn’t call a bmw a nice car the gear boxes are week with no power and made with cheep parts that are over priced. the land rover is a heavy piece of crap that would get stuck in a puddle, id dump that too, he should have got a Toyota surf.

    • lol

Hahaha hater. It’s funny when people hate so hard because they can’t afford things. Yeah, Toyota and Mazda are better than these cars, lol. Get a job loser.

      • Roabe

Those wannabe sheiks in Dubai sure as heck couldn’t afford those cars. LOL!!

    • Synacks

You could buy 100 Toyotas/Mazda’s with the minimum price tag of that Enzo.

This is a nonsense article. Those cars are obviously not left behind by their owners. They are just dirty after a sandstorm. SMASH is a pay-per-click website that earns money from visitors who click on their ads or links to their fake articles.
