You’ll know Rose McGowan as an actor, who played the go-go dancer with a machine gun for a leg in the movie Planet Terror—but now, she’s done with acting, and she’s making moves into the music industry.

Her not-so-tentative first step is this surreal music video directed by Swede Jonas Åkerlund (he of Lady Gaga’s “Telephone” video fame). And it’s a strange, otherworldly gothic trip. A kind of pop version of the avant garde.

“Not only did I not fit in, I didn’t want to fit in”. McGowan says in an interview with Nowness. “I woke up one day and realised I hated acting and that I’d always hated it. Imagine, its predominantly men whose scripts get done so it was mostly a male voice coming out of my mouth for fifteen years.”

Not that she’s turned her back on movies, she’s directed a short called Dawn, it’s just she no longer wants to act.

And she has other priorities now like, she says, feeling a responsibility to create a feminist dialogue.

“Yes I feel like it’s my duty and other people who have a voice, it’s their duty as well. We’re told from when were very young: ‘don’t upset anybody, don’t rock the boat.’ Why not? I believe in civil disruption. I also think it’s important for bodies to be represented in a non-sexual manner, especially women’s bodies.”

    yes, let’s start out with a blade runner quote that can’t even get the first sentence right. then throw in some björk and some 80s synthesizer that seems to make an astounding comeback the past few years. finally the dull electro bassdrum so we get the people dancing. it’s a nice tune nonetheless, but it’s just so intentional wannabe-creative.
