Unfortunately we grow up, get older, and no longer pretend that the cracks in the sidewalk are chasms falling into an abyss that must be avoided at all costs. Or that the ground is made of hot lava and you have to navigate he living room furniture to avoid it.

But that vivid imagination and sense of magic that is unique to childhood is what’s captured and remembered in this stop motion video by PermaGrin Films director Marc Donahue. It’s a music video for the track “Imagination” by Jordan Corey, which is a cover of the same track from classic 1971 film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. And the end result is amazing.

The video is a step back into our collective childhoods, dripping with pop culture nostalgia it features animated Lego sets, Super Mario bedsheets, Ghostbusters posters, ball pools, and live-action Mario Kart.

“As children, we viewed the world through the lenses of our imaginations.” says PermaGrin Films. “The carpet became lava, the shadows formed monsters, the family minivan was a spaceship. But the older we got, the more reality set in, and soon we forgot the magic our minds could create. We invite you to step back into your childhood and take a look through the lens once again.”
