The term “wide-eyed” is a common one when talking about cats especially kittens, but there’s wide-eyed and then there’s Herman the cat whose eyes are so wide he can’t fully close them. Even when he sleeps they remain partly open. Or that might just be because he’s keeping an eye out for any treats, who knows.

The cute five-month old exotic shorthair lives in Copenhagen, Denmark with his owner Shirley. As for what makes those eyes so bulbous, the vet says he has no underlying problems, he was just born this way.

What it does do though is make Herman look extra adorable as well as looking like he’s always surprised at everything he sees. That or his eyes are bulging because he’s in constant disbelief.

Just think Puss in Boots from Shrek when he gives that cute irresistible look of his. But permanently.

He’s only young though so he may well grow into his eyes yet. Perhaps he was born with adult cat eyes and they’ll remain the same size while he continues to grow. I dunno, I’m no cat specialist.

But, until he does grow into them we can all enjoy this completely adorable derpy-looking kitty and, who knows, maybe meme status awaits.

You can follow Herman on Instagram for more of his surprised cuteness.
